Dulla Mnanga

Dulla Mnanga was born in Dar es salaam, Tanzania 62 years ago. He is a mixture of two tribes (Mngindo and Ngoni). He is a songwriter, singer and plays different types of musical instruments. He fell in love with music at the early age of his childhood, during the 70’s, he was already engaging himself in Tanzania traditional music and his favorite music instrument is rhythm guitar. During this time it was difficult for him to buy a guitar, so he decided to make his own traditional guitar by using a piece of wood and some parts of bicycle brakes.

Every time he wanted to borrow a guitar from his friends they did not allow him because they were afraid he would break their guitar, because he wasn’t used to it.

1975

Jazz band

He joined a youth music group from Chang’ombe where he use original box guitar and he was getting experience with playing guitar. During this time he got to know the manager of a local band from Nuta jazz band and it was during this time where he was introduced to another Nuta jazz band. These are the songs which Dulla plays rhythm guitar (Ccm iendelee, Viva frelimo, Hebusikia, Mpenzi Zarina, Fatuma jirekebishe, Nasikitika, Nidhamu ya kazi, Aziza, Mume wangu nirudishe kwetu,Sogea karibu,bwana wacha wizi, Nauliza ndugu zangu, Iddi Amini and Kaka Selemani.

1981

With this band Dulla tries to experimental different kind of music instruments and base guitar. These are songs which he plays rhythm guitar (Tufurahi na wana sikinde, Taxi, Na lala kwa tabu, Visa vimenichosha, jirani, Nduli Iddi Amini, Mfaume, Waniliza, nawashukuru wazazi and Kasimu amefirisika.

1987

Kilimanjaro band wana njenje

At this point of time Dulla again wanted to experiment with different types of music instruments and he started to play Tumba with Percussion and then later he changed to bass guitar and started singing.

1990

Tatunane

Dulla Mnanga was part of six members of a popular local and international dance music band Tatunane. He was multitasking by playing drums, singing and dancing at the same time. The main theme for the group was playing traditional Tanzanian music. In 1991 the band received an award for their winning prix decouvertes Radio France Internationale in France. They had tours in Europe, Africa and Asia (Netherland, Germany, France, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark) (Benin) (Japan) and Canada.

After successful tours for both International and Tanzania the band split up and at this point Dulla Mnanga decided to move to Denmark where he began his solo career

Dulla Omari Mnanga, Born march 1959 Is a Tanzanian singer, songwriter, composer, and arranger based in Copenhagen Denmark.

Dulla launched a solo career, with the debut album Nani, which has 6 tracks. Using his vast knowledge of Tanzania tradition culture. His songs are deeply rooted in the traditions of the many tribes of Tanzania.

He effortlessly absorbs such diverse styles as Salsa, Funk, Samba and Reggaeton.

The songs are all about life in Tanzania by telling stories about people and making everybody happy and dancing.

This song was inspired by the era of disco in1970-80s disco fever.

NANI

The inspiration of this song comes from the history of humans since our expulsion from paradise Adam and Eva.

The beats used in this song are from traditional drums from Tanzania called msoma, which used to be played by famous blind artist Morris Nyunyusa with his 13 drums.
